Process Controls Engineer
Will be a key contributor and provide support to the overall operation and maintenance objectives. Instrumental in troubleshooting and repairing lumber manufacturing process equipment, completing daily runtime predictive routes all while working as a team to achieve mill wide safety, production and quality goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- PLC controls programming to include networked PLCs
- HMI programming to build new or modify existing HMIs on a variety of platforms
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic circuits and mill network systems
- Read and interpret electrical schematics
- Correctly interprets technical documents for proper execution of assignments
- Perform quality testing and inspections
- Works individually or as part of a team with maintenance and management employees
- Shares knowledge, coordinates, and communicates effectively to all levels
- Understands and uses data to improve productivity
- Adhere to all mill safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Highly flexible and able to adjust hours and schedule to meet mill needs
- Recognize opportunities for improvement and help local mill management see the same
- Ensuring operating safety devices function properly on completion of repairs, modifications, and installations
- Sharpening and maintaining machine tools
- Participating in the PM program on all equipment for continuous improvement of all machines
- Keeping detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
- Cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on machines
- Metal fabrication work, guarding, priming and painting of parts.
- Adhering to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances
- Maintaining a clean and environmentally safe work area
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Required Competencies:
- Advanced PLC programming skills (Allen-Bradley Contrologix experience required)
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to maintain mill network systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and configure industrial HMIs
- Ability to troubleshoot, configure and install AC and DC drives
- Demonstrates effective and logical troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivate, reliable, positive attitude, strong work ethic, and respect for others
- Exhibit a proactive attitude towards process improvement regardless of the type of work required, whether it be operational, mechanical, or electrical
- Solid interpersonal skills allowing one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Education and Experience:
- 2-year degree preferred but not required
- 4 years of process controls experience in manufacturing
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights when needed
- Suitable agility and stamina to permit negotiation of stairs, elevated work platforms, ladders and walking on uneven terrain
